Meet Kyle Benson
Hi, I'm Kyle
(he / him)
I’m a Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist and an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist with a deep passion for helping couples build secure, resilient, and emotionally connected relationships. My work is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Attachment Theory, The Gottman Method, and Polyvagal Theory, integrating science with compassion to support meaningful and lasting change.
I became a couples and sex therapist because I know firsthand what it’s like to feel unimportant or disconnected in a relationship. My own therapeutic journey was transformational, teaching me how secure relationships are not something you “find,” but something you co-create through emotional responsiveness, repair, and intentional connection. That lived experience deeply informs how I show up for the couples and individuals I work with.
As a self-described research nerd, I love translating relationship science into practical, usable tools. I was a researcher in Dr. John Gottman’s Love Lab, where I helped code couples’ conversations using the SPAFF system, an advanced method for studying emotional patterns during conflict. Today, I continue to stay deeply engaged with the research so clients don’t just feel supported, but are guided by approaches proven to work.
Working With Me
If you choose to work with me, we’ll collaborate to clarify your goals and create a therapy process that supports healing, growth, and long-term transformation. Because relationships don’t exist in isolation, I strongly encourage significant others to participate in the therapy process whenever possible.
I am non-monogamous and BDSM-affirming, and I strive to create a space where clients of diverse relationship structures and identities feel seen, respected, and supported. I provide therapy in English.
When I’m not sitting with clients, you’ll likely find me reviewing the latest research on relationships and sexual intimacy, always asking: How can this help people love more securely?
Fun Facts
I drink way too much espresso. I call Florida home, and on the weekends you might see me cruising around in a golf cart, listening to reggae, or running outside with my kids.
