Honoring World AIDS Day: Grief, Reflection, and Hope

Each year, December 1st invites us to pause and honor World AIDS Day—a day that holds grief, remembrance, resilience, and hope. Since 1988, the HIV epidemic has shaped lives and communities across the globe. Its impact is profound, and the stories that continue to be lived, told, and carried forward matter deeply.

At Healing Moments Counseling, we want you to know: we see you.

Whether you are living with HIV, loving someone who is, navigating loss, or seeking clarity and support, you deserve care that meets you where you are. This day is a reminder that no one should have to navigate these experiences alone.

As part of our commitment to accessible, affirming care, we’ve gathered a list of local and national resources for HIV testing, PrEP and PEP access, and trusted information on the U=U campaign. These tools can offer support, prevention, and empowerment—as well as opportunities to stay connected to your own health and the wellbeing of your community.

HIV Testing (Free or Low-Cost)

Accessible testing is foundational to community wellness and personal peace of mind. These resources offer confidential, free, or low-cost HIV testing:

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)

PrEP is a daily medicine that significantly reduces the risk of acquiring HIV through sex or injection drug use (HIV.gov). Many find it empowering—a way to stay connected to safety and autonomy.

Support and access:

PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis)

PEP is an emergency medication that can be taken within 72 hours of a possible exposure to HIV. It’s most effective when started as soon as possible.

To access PEP:

U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable)

“U=U” is a powerful, evidence-based message of hope and dignity.
For people living with HIV, maintaining an undetectable viral load through daily antiretroviral therapy (ART) means HIV cannot be transmitted sexually (Washington State Department of Health).
