I am a therapist, yes, but I am also known as a mother, wife, friend, and animal lover. I enjoy being with family, cooking, and consider myself very playful. I love to laugh (which clients will notice even in my therapy!). I am known as a visionary and believe in people and their ability to succeed!
City and Country Girl
I grew up in Chicago, so I consider myself a city girl. However, because of my love of the outdoors and animals, I am also very much a country girl. I was born in Virginia, so I guess being a country girl is in my blood.
So, I admit it: I love learning. Besides having a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University, I have also been trained as a sex therapist and certified through AASECT. I am also certified through ICEEFT as an Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist (EFT).
Basically, I love learning new techniques to help my clients. I believe that each person and family is different; one way does not work for everybody, so I make sure I learn many ways to help many different types of people. So, I won't be offended if you call me an overachiever!
Why go to a Certified Sex Therapist?
A certified sex therapist is specifically trained to deal with all areas concerning sexuality. We have spent years beyond a typical therapist's training so clients can receive the care and expertise they are looking for.
What is a Certified Integrated Intimacy Professional?
A certified Integrated Intimacy Professional (CIIP) is a person who has been trained in a holistic approach to sexuality. A CIIP is a mental health professional with advanced training in couples therapy, sex therapy and spiritual intimacy. For more information, please visit www.nwioi.com.
I consider myself to be a spiritual person. In fact, in the spirit of being an overachiever, I want to admit that I have a Master of Divinity degree. What that means for us in therapy is: If you would find it helpful to incorporate spirituality into our sessions, wonderful. For those who would not want to do so, that is perfect as well. I am a firm believer that our time together is about you; therefore, how spirituality is incorporated in our time together (if at all) will be totally up to you.
I belong to...
You know a lot about a person by the type of associations they belong to or people they hang out with. So I think it is important for you to know what associations I am a part of.
I belong to the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and the Washington Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. These groups help me stay aware of all the new therapy techniques and totally enables my overachieving spirit.
I am also a member of the American Association of Sexuality, Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). This association helps with a wealth of information surrounding issues of sexuality. It is one of my favorite memberships!
I am also a member of ICEEFT which focuses on using EFT to help distress couples.
What is a Certified EFT Therapist?
A Certified EFT Therapist has gone through hours of training in order to ensure they were able to help distressed couples connect using the EFT model of therapy. For more information about EFT please go to http://www.iceeft.com/.
I love talking in front of people and sharing with others. I have spoken at the University of Washington Multiple Sclerosis Center about sexuality and disability and have spoken at adult living facilities concerning sex education. I have also spoken at many faith communities around issues of marriage, communication, and parenting. If you would like me to come speak at your location, please feel free to contact me.
